The recurrence of individuals going in and out of the prison system is a problem for both the individual involved and the society. This recurrence can be divided into 2 types:- Recidivism, where individuals continually come in and out of prison and; secondly, that of an Inter-generational cycle. This occurs when there is or has been more than one generation in the family in prison.
In Singapore, there are several organizations which currently handle the problem of recidivism. The approach of these organizations is to give the convict a second chance in life either through addressing the stigma or finding appropriate jobs for the ex convicts.
We distinguish ourselves from these methods by addressing the socialization aspect of the convict’s reintegration into society, primarily the role played by the family. Not only do we aspire to prevent the re-entry of ex convicts into the prison system, we also aim to prevent the tragic cycle of the children of the families following the trajectory of the parents into prison. We hope through our interactive programs, we are able to address these issues.
